Excellent acclimatization hike for strong trekkers

Stunning turquoise glacier lake at the base of giant peaks
A less-crowded trail offering a more rugged adventure
Character
The Cordillera Blanca is the largest mountain range in Peru, with 31 peaks over 6,000 meters high. The trail to Laguna Mullaca takes you deep into the heart of this range, right to the base of the impressive Vallunaraju and Ocshapalca massifs. Unlike some easier lake walks, this is a true mountain trail that ascends steadily through a beautiful high-Andean valley, passing quenual forests and open grasslands. The reward is reaching the pristine Laguna Mullaca, a stunning turquoise lake nestled directly beneath massive, hanging glaciers. It is a more demanding day hike, perfect for those seeking a physical challenge and a more remote feel away from the main tourist crowds.
Requirements
You must be healthy and in very good physical condition. This is a moderate to challenging day hike with significant and sustained elevation gain at high altitude. It is more strenuous than hikes like Laguna 69 or Laguna Paron. Good stamina and strong legs are required. While it serves as an excellent acclimatization hike, it is recommended that you have already spent a few days at altitude and preferably completed an easier initial trek before undertaking this one.
Best Season
The best trekking season in the Andes is from April to October, with rainy season in between. It is usually sunny and warm during this time. Due to the altitude, the nights can be quite cold (to minus 5°C).

Day 1 Huaraz - Laguna Paron - Huaraz
We will begin with an early morning departure from Huaraz in a private vehicle. After an approximate 1.5-hour drive, we will arrive at the trailhead, a scenic spot perfect for enjoying breakfast. The hike starts with a gradual ascent, initially crossing the small Radian lagoon and traversing hillsides covered in native Andean grass. The path then enters a valley adorned with ancient forests that leads to our destination. After about 3.5 hours of trekking, we will reach and explore the stunning twin lagoons. Following a memorable lunch break, we will descend for 2.5 hours through the valley to the town of Chavín, where our vehicle will be waiting for the return trip to Huaraz.

Frequenly asked questions
ow many days should I get used to the altitude before this trip?
The time required varies from person to person. If you already have high altitude experience, your body may become acclimated faster. We recommend spending at least 2 days in Huaraz or doing easy activities in the area.
Can I swim in Laguna Mullaca?
If the icy cold water does not bother you, you are welcome to jump into the lake It is certainly a unique experience and leaves great memories.
Can I do this hike in the rainy season?
The Laguna Mullaca hike can be done easily in the rainy season. In addition, the vegetation is especially beautiful and green at this time. In the morning, it is often sunny and the clouds do not gather until noon. The rain comes in the afternoon at about 4 o’clock. In the rainy season, therefore, we usually leave a little earlier in the morning.
