Cusco - Rainbow Mountain

Cusco - Rainbow Mountain

Near Cusco lies the mountain Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain, which features a unique geological phenomenon. The surface of the ground appears as if it has been painted in vibrant colors. The red, beige, and green hues were formed millions of years ago through sediment layers that were pushed upward by tectonic activity. Iron oxide created the reddish tones, magnesium resulted in lighter pink shades, and a reaction between copper, water, and oxygen led to the blue-green coloration. This recently discovered mountain has become a highlight of any trip to Peru.
