Alpamayo & Artesonraju Climb Expedition
Alpamayo & Artesonraju Climb Expedition
Ascend two of the most emblematic and sought-after peaks in the Cordillera Blanca in a single expedition. Alpamayo (5,947 m), famous for its perfect ice pyramid, and Artesonraju (6,025 m), whose silhouette inspired the Paramount Pictures logo, are the dream of every mountaineer. The program combines technique, challenge, and breathtaking landscapes. First, we will ascend the west face of Alpamayo, an ice climb with slopes up to 60 degrees. Then, we will cross to the Santa Cruz Valley to face the southeast route of Artesonraju. Two mythical summits, two unforgettable challenges.

FAQ
? What level of experience and physical condition is required for this expedition?
This is an advanced expedition that requires previous experience in glacier climbing and technical handling of crampons and ice axe on snow and ice slopes (it is not for beginners). You must have previously climbed mountains over 5,000 m and have experience in roped climbing. Physical condition must be excellent, as we will face jornadas of up to 12 hours at high altitude, with slopes of up to 60 degrees on Alpamayo and 55 degrees on Artesonraju. Previous acclimatization experience in the Andes or mountains of similar altitude is recommended.
? Why does the itinerary have a rest day between the two mountains?
The rest day in Taullipampa (Day 06) with the option of hiking to Punta Unión Pass is strategic and fundamental. After the demanding ascent of Alpamayo, the body needs to recover before facing Artesonraju. This active rest allows for better physical recovery, helps consolidate the acclimatization gained, and also offers the opportunity to enjoy the impressive views of the Santa Cruz Valley. It is a key moment to recharge energy and prepare mentally for the second great challenge of the expedition.
? What type of terrain will we find on the route?
The route presents a great variety of terrains. In the first few days, we will walk along trekking trails in valleys and moraines. On the ascents to the high camps and summits, the terrain becomes technical, with approaches through moraine and ascents over glaciers with snow and ice slopes of up to 60 degrees on Alpamayo and 55 degrees on Artesonraju. Experience in glacier climbing and handling technical equipment is required.
