Nevado Huarapasca, this mountain can be climbed throughout the year, but the best time is from April to September, this snow-capped mountain is a good place to learn to wall climb and take ice climbing and descent courses. The Huarapasca is a mountain that offers an accessible and fun experience for those who wish to do technical wall climbing since it does not present great difficulties. It has 3 slopes of 60° – 65° which makes it ideal for gaining experience in ice climbing technique.
Itinerary
Day 1:Huaraz - Huarapasca - Huaraz
Our expedition begins in the city of Huaraz. at 2 a.m. We left and headed south through the Callejón de Huaylas to the town of Catac and we deviated to the east side to the starting point of our climb. Here we will begin our ascent to Nevado Huarapasca, we load the mountain equipment in our backpack and after 1 hour of approach through the moraine we will arrive at the glacier, at this point we will equip ourselves and shelter, our guide will inspect everything essential for his rise. The climb begins with a shovel of about 100m (60°), after overcoming this section we cross the mountain plate until we reach the next shovel of 50m (65°), finally, after 4 hours of climbing we will arrive at the long- awaited summit to enjoy a splendid view of the mountains of 4 different mountain ranges - Blanca, Huayhuash, Hualcán and Negra, a privileged characteristic of this snow-capped mountain. We remain at the summit for a prudent time to rest, hydrate and take photographs. Finally we make the descent by the same ascent route until we reach our vehicle to be transferred to the city of Huaraz, where we will be arriving at 2 pm.

Nevado Huarapasca (5,396 m) is a moderate difficulty glacier mountain, ideal for those starting in mountaineering or with basic experience. No prior technical experience is required, but good physical condition and proper acclimatization to the altitude are essential. Our certified guides will teach you the necessary techniques during the ascent, making it an excellent training mountain.
? What equipment do I need to bring and what do you provide?
We provide technical climbing equipment - crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, and rope. You should bring your personal equipment - mountain boots (ideally double plastic or lined), waterproof clothing (pants and jacket), 40L backpack, hat, gloves, sunglasses, headlamp, and water bottle. If you are missing anything, we have rental equipment available at an additional cost.
? What is the difficulty level of Nevado Huarapasca?
Nevado Huarapasca presents a moderate technical difficulty (PD on the alpine scale). The ascent involves walking on a glacier with gentle to moderate slopes of up to 30 degrees, with some crevasse sections that require attention but without technically complex passages. It is considered one of the best mountains for acclimatization and preparation for more challenging climbs in the Cordillera Blanca.
