Tour that includes a visit to the southern side of the Callejón de Huaylas, a brief stop at Laguna Querococha, then an ascent to the Cahuish pass/tunnel and a descent through the Conchucos valley to the town of Chavín. The visit to the Chavin de Huantar archaeological complex takes approximately 2 hours, and then the National Museum of Chavin is also visited, where the most important remains found in the Temple are exhibited. The full-day Chavin de Huantar tour starts at around 9:00 am and ends in the evening around 7:00 pm. Chavin de Huantar is also called the mother culture of the Peruvian Andes.
Itinerary
Day 1:Huaraz – Laguna Querococha – Chavin Monument / Museum
Important visit to the archaeological monument of Chavín, declared a World Heritage Site. Chavín was one of the first cultures in Peru and the first Cultist Center. The visit begins by touring the towns located in the southern part of the city of Huaraz (Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac) and then taking the detour to the east to enter the Cordillera Blanca and stop for about 20 minutes at Laguna Querococha (3900 msnm). Then we continue ascending to the Cahuish pass/tunnel and cross to the Callejón de Conchucos valley and arrive after an endless descent of curves to the city of Chavin where we will visit the majestic archaeological complex of Chavin (Square Plaza, Circular Plaza, The Castle, The Labyrinths and the famous Lanzón) and also the Chavín museum which is located 1 km from the city. Here we can learn about the different stages and phases of the development of the Great First High Andean Culture in Peru. After lunch in the same city of Chavin and walking for a few minutes through its streets, we will return by the same road to the city of Huaraz.

? What level of physical fitness is required for the Chavín de Huántar tour?
The Chavín de Huántar tour does not require intense physical effort, as it is mainly a tour by transport and archaeological visits. We will walk moderately during the guided visits in the archaeological site and the museum. It is suitable for all ages, including families with children and seniors. The most important thing is to be prepared for the altitude (Chavín is at 3,150 m) and to have had at least one day of acclimatization in Huaraz.
